What is Bars: Bars are the foundation of Access Consciousness.
A healing modality that is a hands on process, 32 points on the head. By activating these points, money, awareness, control etc you are clearing out the closet (so to speak), letting go of conditionings, judgements and points of view around everything you have bought around these areas in your life or past lives. It’s like the body’s own delete button.

We were so excited when we were asked to review the Baby K’tan. Baby K’tan is an awesome option for newborns and smaller babies without the added hassle of wrapping. You get the same snuggles from a stretchy wrap without the added time! The Baby K’tan is super easy to use and works great for babies up past 20 pounds. I have always found that with any stretchy carrier, beyond 20 pounds can put some strain on you, and become less comfortable after long periods of time. Being able to put the Baby K’tan on easily and correctly in a short amount of time is something we LOVE about this carrier. Plus no ends ever touch the ground, or get dirty in a parking lot.

This is Max at 18 pounds and 15 months in a hug hold.

There are multiple positions for the Baby K’tan, the hug hold being our favorite.  The Baby K’tan also allows for a hip hold and explore hold for those babies that really want to look around.  You can also breastfeed in it!

This is Rowan at 24 pounds and 19 months old in a hip carry.

Another feature we love is the bag that comes with it! It folds up nicely and can be stored in your diaper bag without a lot of bulk.

The one thing we found to be an issue was the fact that Baby K’tans are sized.  If you can get anyone else in your family to wear, you will probably have to have more than one in order to get the right fit for each person.  That being said, with a Baby K’tan, because it is sized there is no wondering if you have it on tight enough. A little about the authors:

Cheyenne Martin is a baby wearing guru.  Working at the Nappy Shoppe, she is known for her skills in all kinds of slings and carriers.  She teaches the Babywearing 102 class at the store.  Cheyenne is the mother of three little girls, and at the time of writing Leelah, her youngest is worn daily using various carriers that she owns.

Ryley Chestnut is also a teacher at Nappy Shoppe, teaching Babywearing 101 and Cloth Diapering 101.  Her young son Rowan is worn daily as well, and when shoppers visit Nappy Shoppe it is not uncommon to see Rowan hanging out in a carrier worn by his mother.

Ingredients

2/3 cup butter softened
2/3 cup brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 6-ounce package Ocean Spray® Craisins® Original Dried Cranberries
2/3 cup chocolate chips

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375ºF.

Using an electric mixer, beat butter and sugar together in a medium mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Add eggs, mixing well. Combine oats, flour, baking soda and salt in a separate mixing bowl. Add to butter mixture in several additions, mixing well after each addition. Stir in dried cranberries and chocolate chips.

Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on wire rack.

Makes approximately 2 1/2 dozen cookies.

Oatmeal Cookies
(adapted from the container recipe on Kroger Old Fashioned Oats — their recipe called for nuts, I used raisins).

Prep Time: 10 mins
Total Time: 75 mins
Makes: 6 Dozen

Ingredients
1 cup of margarine or butter, softened
1 cup of granulated sugar
1 cup of brown sugar, firmly packed
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups AP Flour
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
3 cups of roll oats (uncooked)
1 cup of raisins

Directions
1. Preheat Oven to 375F
2. Cream Butter or Margarine and sugars until smooth. Beat in Eggs and Vanilla.
3. Sift flour, cinnamon, baking soda and salt. Beat into creamed mixture. Stir in oats and raisins.
4. Drop spoonfuls onto greased baking sheet.
5. Bake 10 to 12 minutes.

 Breastfeeding Café!

Every Wednesday from 11-1!

We welcome all breastfeeding moms to join us to chat about breastfeeding at all ages and stages of nursing.

• Café is attended by a Certified Lactation Counselor and/or Le Leche League Leader
• Baby scale available to do before and after weights
• Designed to offer support to all nursing mothers from newborn challenges to toddler strikes

I love my cloth diapers and we solely use them when we’re home and out and about. I use disposables, however, when I’m at other places where people who are not familiar with cloth diapers. I do this as a courtesy to those who are taking care of my child and as a way to show them that I am flexible. I can be flexible. Why? Because in the grand scheme of things, in the big picture of my daughter’s life, wearing a disposable for two or three hours will probably not cause her any harm.

I’m involved in a mother’s group at my church. We have two times that our groups meet and we watch each others kids at least twice a semester. There is a mother whose kid is in the “walkers” room – meaning that most of those children are one years old and walking steadily. Her child wears cloth diapers to our group when they’ve asked that all children be placed in disposables. They do this because our childcare works on a volunteer system and to be nice to the two hours that our volunteers are already giving up to watch our children they want to make life easier for them.

Unfortunately this mom is known as a crazy cloth diapering mama and I’ll tell you why. She is so focused on her child that she doesn’t see how her frequent visits and check ups to the room her child is in wreaks havoc to the rest of the kids in there. One year olds have a hard time separating from their parents. After a little while they overcome their anxiety and almost forget that Mom or Dad left them. All is peaceful…that is until the door opens and a mother walks in. It doesn’t have to be their mother; what that child knows is that someone’s mother is in the room which then reminds them that their mother is not. Chaos explodes and suddenly half of the 13 children you have in there who were happily playing are now upset. And the cause of the now chaotic room is because a mom who uses cloth diapers insisted that no one else change her child or put them in a disposable.

While the cloth diaper movement is gaining serious momentum I think it’s important to keep in mind that we are still living in a disposable world. Cloth diapering, while its roots are classic, historic even, are not the norm right now. Those who don’t use cloth diapers already have preconceived notions about us. I’m sure some of those ideas are probably that we’re tree hugging, granolas who only wear everything organic and wash our hair with mayonnaise. Some of us do live that way but not all of us just like some disposable using parents eat organic and all natural.

In order to spread the word about cloth diapers and show how they are really more beneficial economically, environmentally and emotionally (okay I added the emotionally part because they are just so stinkin’ cute!) we have to be willing to not be extreme with our cloth diapering. We cannot and shouldn’t insist to have our way especially if it causes problems or chaotic situations like the one that I described above.

I guess what I’m saying is that if a public place like daycare, church nurseries, the gym, etc. have a disposable only rule don’t try to bully your way into getting what you want. It only makes you look fanatical. Since we’re not the societal norm we have to not be over-zealous so that we can attract others to this lifestyle. If we act in such a way that we come across as self-righteous and pious about cloth diapers our efforts to continue to spread fluffy love will be in vain. Who wants to join something so that they too can be self-righteous? Probably no one. I think we need to be up for change from our fluffy needs and try our best to not insist on always getting things done our way.

You do catch more flies with honey. If we are loving, accepting and flexible, I think we’ll all find that more parents will jump on the bandwagon because they too will realize that the switch to cloth really isn’t as hard as they thought it would be. Plus, the community of cloth diaper lovers is just fabulous!
